BRIEF

The halal and Islamic products industry have emerged as a new and powerful sector in the domestic and global markets with market value exceeding RM 7.6 trillion a year. It is an industry that supports Malaysia's economic growth as well as being one of the major industries that generate state revenues. Through the development of Islamic-inspired innovations, Malaysia has the potential to become one of the global leaders in Islamic products and services.

The Islamic Innovation Challenge 2019 is a national initiative to drive Malaysia's aspirations for the halal and Islamic products market as well as to encourage SMEs to be innovative. We would like to invite Malaysian SMEs who have high-tech businesses or ideas to join and compete with other innovative minds in Malaysia on Islamic innovation for a chance to win IIC 2019 and getting an investment opportunity by PlaTCOM Ventures. COMPLETE AND SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION

We lay down the foundation of innovation that inspires and produces a new generation of innovative entrepreneurs.
PLATCOM VENTURES
PlaTCOM Ventures Sdn Bhd is the national technology commercialisation platform of Malaysia and a wholly-owned subsidiary company of Agensi Inovasi Malaysia (AIM) formed in collaboration with SME Corporation Malaysia under one of its six High Impact Programmes (HIPs) in the SME Master Plan 2012-2020.
HIGH IMPACT PROGRAMME 2
High Impact Programme 2 (HIP2) addresses innovation gaps through a holistic and 'market-driven' approach. It introduces the Concept-to-Commercialisation Gap Fund (CCGF) aimed at assisting Malaysian SMEs to accelerate the development and commercialisation of innovative products/solutions/services.

JAKIM performs three (3) main functions as below:

Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM), under the purview of Prime Minister’s Department is the central agency for Islamic affairs and Ummah development in Malaysia. As the main agency for Islamic affairs management at Federal level as well as the secretariat for Majlis Kebangsaan Bagi Hal Ehwal Agama Islam Malaysia (MKI), the three (3) main functions of JAKIM are:-
Function 1: Legislation and Standardisation of the Sharia law

Function 2: Coordination of the Islamic Administration

Function 3: Coordination and Development of Islamic Education
Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC)
Established on 18 September 2006, Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC) is Malaysia's response to the momentum which now building up worldwide, for better quality products and services as consumers gain confidence in the Halal process. 

HDC also coordinates the overall development of the Halal industry in Malaysia. Focusing on development of Halal standards, audit and certification, plus capacity building for Halal products and services, HDC promotes participation and facilitates growth of Malaysian companies in the global Halal market.
Intent on building a global Halal community, HDC brings the Malaysian Halal industry in unison toward a common goal.

SUBMISSION CRITERIA

  • MALAYSIAN PRINCIPAL APLLICANT

    • Malaysian majority-owned (minimum of 51% equity) Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) based on SME Corp’s definition (please refer to the Application Guidelines)
    • A minimum paid-up capital in cash of RM 10,000.
    • The challenge allocates a matching grant where up to 70% of the total project will be funded by the Programme. Applicants must demonstrate matching fund up to make up the rest of the project cost.

  • What are the supporting documents required?
    The compulsory documents are:

    • Company registration (SSM Form 9, 24, 44, 49 and Company M&A) 
    • Gantt chart 
    • Detailed financial projection for five years and assumptions pertaining to the project

  • How do I know the result of my application?
    The organiser will announce the outcome of the evaluation process via e-mail. PlaTCOM will be in touch with the shortlisted applicants for the next phase of the challenge.

QUESTION 9

  • What is the benefit of joining this challenge?
    Winners of this challenge will be identified as Malaysia’s Islamic Innovation where end-to-end facilitation support will be provided to support the development and commercialisation of the technology for the halal industry. Grant money will be awarded to the winners as one of the components for this facilitation. The winners will be admitted to the High Impact Programme 2 under the SME Masterplan 2012-2020 of SME Corp.
