This initiative aims to support proposals for collaborative projects that bring together experts from Malaysia and the United Kingdom to focus on commercialisation of dengue-related research and products in Malaysia.

This initiative aims to:
  • support commercialisation of Dengue research between organisations from Malaysia and United Kingdom
  • provide proactive solutions to Dengue outbreaks in Malaysia
  • provide a platform for industry-academia commercialisation collaboration activities in Malaysia and United Kingdom

The minimum composition of a Team is ONE Malaysian Principal Applicant AND ONE UK Principal Applicant. Both of the Principal Applicants’ institutions/organisations (the ‘Lead Organisations’) must have the capacity to administer the grant. There can only be two Principal Applicants (one each from Malaysia and the UK, country-specific eligibility criteria are listed below) but if it will add value to your Team, you can invite Associate Partners, from either Malaysia or the UK, to join your team. Inclusion of Associate Partners is optional and there is no limit to the number of Associate Partners, but please note that the Principal Applicants are responsible for the deliverables of the entire project.

After your team is formed, download the Application Form and the Budget Spreadsheet and complete these documents as a team. The completed Form needs to be signed by the relevant signatories (refer to the Form) and submitted by either Principal Applicant of the team. This can be done by clicking on “Submit Now”. Please ensure the Form is completed as comprehensively as possible and that the relevant supporting documents are uploaded along with the completed and signed Form to ease the assessment process.

Newton-Ungku Omar Fund
The Newton Fund is a £375 million fund which, through science and innovation partnerships, promotes the economic development and welfare of poor people in partnering countries. It aims to strengthen science and innovation capacity and unlock further funding to support poverty alleviation.

  • MALAYSIAN PRINCIPAL APPLICANT
    • Malaysian majority-owned (minimum of 51% equity) Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) based on SME Corp’s definition (please refer to the Application Guidelines), AND
    • Minimum paid-up capital in cash of MYR 10,000.
  • UK Principal Applicant
    • UK Principal Applicant must be a Leading Researcher or an Established Researcher (please refer to the Application Guidelines) from:
      • A not-for-profit higher education institution with the capacity to undertake high-quality research, OR
      • A not-for-profit research organisation with the capacity to undertake high-quality research.
  • Malaysian or UK Associate Partner(s)
    • Other research or higher education establishments
    • Not-for-profit organisations (including non-governmental organisations (NGOs))
    • For-profit/commercial organisations, including small and medium enterprises (SMEs);
    • Individuals (subject matter experts, technology owners, etc.)

Question 1
  • Can I work with a partner for my submission?
    Yes, you can but the partner(s) needs to fall under the following categories: Malaysian Principal Applicant, Malaysian Associate Partner, UK Principal Applicant or UK Associate Parter. PlaTCOM Ventures and the British Council will only be working directly with Principal Applicants. The partner will be termed as “Collaborator” or “Associate Partner”. All Collaborators must also register and complete their Profiles. To invite a Collaborator to join your Team, you can send an invitation to them after they have registered by searching under “Search Member”.

  • Can I use other submission formats?
    For all submissions of Application Forms and supporting documents, we require you to do so via this online platform after you have registered, set up your Team and completed the Application Forms. If you have any special requests, which we are not obliged to address, you may write in to us by clicking on “Contact Us”.
